3D Insects

  1. These insects are brilliant, I would love to know how you made them so I can make them with my class. I particularly like the bright yellow beetle.

  2. Thank you Miss Bailey, the students will be very pleased to hear that. We started the project by studying insects and creating some detailed drawings. we then discussed form and symmetry and used newspaper and masking tape to mould the shape of the insects- attaching the wire along the way. After a coating of PVA glue and tissue paper, the students developed some drawing designs, looking at colour and pattern which they then painted onto the insects. wool was used to define areas of the wire and to add an alternative texture. Artists to look at: Victoria Saxe, Uchiyami Syojiro,Alfonso Castillo and a range of 'wire artists' that can be found online.
